Berlin - a super-8 movie, 2002

Made with about 4200 photos and with several sections in 24 frames by second, BERLIN – is a visual memory between photography and film.

“It opens with an overhead shot of figures darting across the snow in February; and ends with a sunset in March.  Cera has sought to capture the concept of a whole city from the perspective of an outsider; and has created shifts in time and space where even the smallest details – a person’s portrait or a receding street – can appear in a subliminal way.   With 45 seconds remaining in the film, Cera briefly integrates several stills from Rosselini’s Germania Anno Zero (1947).  Along with several sections filmed in 24 frames per second, the 3 minute, 20 second movie is a fast-paced visual experience that lies somewhere between photography and film.”
